Restaurant Order SQL Analysis

About this project

The situation:

You've just been hired as a Data Analyst for the Taste of the World Cafe, a restaurant that has diverse menu offerings and serves generous portions.

The assignment:

The Taste of the World Cafe debuted a new menu at the start of the year.

You've been asked to dig into the customer data to see which menu items are doing well/not well and what the top customers seem to like best.

The objectives:

  1. Explore the meny_items table to get an idea of what's on the new menu.

  2. Explore the order_details table to get an idea of the data that's been collected.

  3. Use both tables to understand how customers are reacting to the new menu.

Key insights:

The data available for this analysis consisted of order data from January through March of 2023. This covers the first three months of the restaurant using the new menu with a total of 5370 orders throughout this time.

Taste of the World Cafe offers a variety of American, Asian, Mexican and Italian dishes.

They offer a larger number of Mexican and Italian dishes, though the most ordered items are actually in the American and Asian categories. The top five items ordered consists of the hamburger, edamame, Korean beef bowl, the cheeseburger, and French fries. The least popular items were there steak tacos, cheese lasagna, potstickers, and chicken tacos.

The menu items range in price from $5 up to $19.95, with the edamame being the least expensive and the shrimp scampi being the most expensive. The edamame was the least expensive, but was included on 620 orders leading this to be the second most ordered item. There were only 239 orders of the shrimp scampi.
