About this project

IKEA offers a diverse range of furniture suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The dataset provided focuses on various aspects of the furniture, including categories, names, prices, new products, availability in different colors, and online availability. The dataset was sourced from Kaggle (https://www.kaggle.com/code/takkimsncn/ikea-products-analysis/data).

I have established a database called "IKEA" that includes a table named "furniture" to store relevant information. The "furniture" table comprises the following columns:

  • item_id: An integer type that uniquely identifies each item.
  • name: A varchar field for storing the name of the furniture.
  • category: A varchar field indicating the category to which the furniture belongs.
  • price: An integer field representing the price of the furniture.
  • old_price: An integer field to track the previous price of the furniture, if applicable.
  • online_availability: A varchar field indicating the availability of the furniture online.
  • colors_available: A varchar field storing information about the various colors available for the furniture.
  • furniture_description: A medium text field to hold a detailed description of the furniture.

By organizing the data in this manner, the IKEA database allows for efficient storage and retrieval of information related to the furniture items, facilitating effective analysis and management of the collection.

In my analysis, I have addressed the following inquiries:

  1. Average Pricing categorized by furniture types.
  2. Price fluctuations across different furniture categories.
  3. The price drop percentage of the furniture.
  4. Category-wise color availability.
  5. Length of furniture descriptions.
  6. Category with the highest price.

My findings:

  1. The top 3 categories with the highest pricing were: Wardrobes, Sofas and Armchairs, and Beds.

  2. The bar furniture category lacked online availability by 93%.

  3. The highest price drop percentage was at 49.9% for open wardrobe.

  4. Not all categories have different color options.

  5. The length of the furniture description was analyzed to know how much information about the furniture was available to the customers.

  6. Sofas, Armchairs, and beds were priced at 9585.

Insights:

  1. Pricing Insights:
  • The top three categories with the highest pricing in IKEA's furniture collection are Wardrobes, Sofas and Armchairs, and Beds. This information suggests that these categories may offer more premium and expensive options compared to others.
  1. Online Availability:
  • The bar furniture category has a significant lack of online availability, with only 7% of the products being accessible online. This finding indicates that customers interested in bar furniture may need to visit physical stores or explore alternative sources to make their purchases.
  1. Price Drops:
  • The open wardrobe category experienced the highest price drop percentage, reaching 49.9%. This significant price drop suggests that IKEA may have implemented pricing strategies or promotions to make these products more attractive to customers.
  1. Color Options:
  • It was observed that not all furniture categories have different color options. This implies that certain categories may have a limited range of colors available, potentially affecting customer choices and preferences.
  1. Furniture Description Length:
  • The analysis of furniture description length indicates the amount of information available to customers about each product. The bar furniture had the highest average description with a length of 26.85.

6)Pricing of Sofas, Armchairs, and Beds:

The maximum pricing for Sofas, Armchairs, and Beds in IKEA's collection is 9585. This suggests that there may be high-end or premium options within these categories that reach this price point.

The pricing range within these categories could vary, and there might be more affordable options available as well.

Conclusion:

  1. Pricing Insights: Wardrobes, Sofas Armchairs, and Beds are the top three categories with the highest pricing in IKEA's furniture collection. This indicates that these categories may offer more premium and expensive options compared to others. Customers looking for high-quality and higher-priced furniture might find these categories appealing.
