About this project

Project Description: Evolution of Music Industry Revenue

Project Goals: The objective of this project was to create a visual for Maven Musicโ€™s upcoming article, which explores how the launch of the iTunes Music Store in 2003 influenced the evolution of the music industry. My goal was to visualize the shift in music revenues over the last 40 years, specifically highlighting the transition from physical to digital formats and the impact of digital platforms on overall revenue trends.

Business Needs: The article aims to provide readers with a clear understanding of how music consumption has evolved over the decades. The focus of this visual was to illustrate both the peak of physical music sales and the subsequent rise of digital formats, helping industry stakeholders and readers recognize key trends and transformations.

Discovering and Presenting Insights: I analyzed the historical data provided, cleaned it for accuracy, and then created a clear visual representation. The chart highlights major revenue peaks, the pivotal role of iTunes' launch, and the rise of digital music. The final visual is easy to interpret, effectively communicating how the music market composition has changed, making it suitable for the magazine's readers.
