About this project

As a new franchise owner of the coffee shop, Maven Roasters, I was interested in getting a better understanding of purchasing behavior and streamlining operations. Transactional data was collected from January - June 2023. The goal was to create a dashboard for franchise owners to find patterns, trends and opportunities for the business. The three objectives included: preparing the raw data, explore the data using Excel PivotTables, and create a dashboard to visualize patterns and trends.

There are three locations of Maven Roasters in New York City: Astoria, Hell's Kitchen, and Lower Manhattan. There were four charts that examined Total Revenue by Month (line chart), Transactions by Day of Week (bar chart), Transactions by Hour of Day (bar chart), and Transactions by Product Category (bar chart). One table was created to examine the Top 15 Products based on Transactions and Revenue.

Some interesting patterns and trends include:

  1. The Astoria location has the most even trendline of transactions throughout the day. Hell's Kitchen has more transactions before noon then the rest of the day. Lower Manhattan has the fewest amount of transactions after 6pm.

  2. Combined Total Revenue was the lowest in Feb at $76K, highest in Jun at $166K. The top performing Product Category was Coffee and the Top Product was Brewed Chai Tea.

  3. For all locations, Saturday was the least performing day of week. Monday and Friday were the top two performing days of the week.

Recommendations:

  1. We may need to look at adjusting operating hours at the Lower Manhattan location and for Saturdays to optimize foot traffic when transactions are high.

  2. The Astoria location may benefit from opening at 6am instead of 7am.

  3. During the months of Jan and Feb we could implement a sales marketing strategy to help increase Total Revenue.
