The Bike Shop Monthly Report

Power BI Dashboard - the Bike Shop

About this project

Greetings, everyone! 🚀

I'm thrilled to present my Power BI project, "The Bike Shop Monthly Report" ,based on the AdventureWorks developed as part of the Maven Analytics Business Intelligence (2023) course. This project delves into the world of "The bike shop", a global manufacturing company specializing in cycling equipment and accessories. This is an End-to-End Business Intelligence Project.

The management team wants us to:

  • Track KPIs
  • Compare Regional Performance
  • Analyze Product-Level Trends
  • Identify High-Value Customers

Project Overview: The dataset consisted of raw CSV files provided by Maven Analytics, The primary objective of this project was to gain deep insights into The bike shop's performance, spanning the years 2020 to 2022. Using Power BI, I embarked on a journey to analyze key metrics, make data-driven decisions, and uncover opportunities for growth and optimization.

Key Project Stes:

  • Data Preparation: The adventure began with data extraction from raw CSV files into the Power Query Editor, cleansing (checking for duplicate values, errors, and patterns.), and transformation to ensure data accuracy and consistency. New columns were introduced for vital measures, including Start of the Week, Start of the Month, Year, and more.
  • Data Modeling: I constructed a robust data model with one-to-many relationships, laying the foundation for insightful reporting.
  • Data Processing/Manipulation: Creating new calculated columns and measures such as Total Transactions, Total Profit, Total Returns, Return Rate, Revenue Target, 90-Day Revenue, etc.
  • Data Visualization: The project culminated in an interactive dashboard featuring KPIs, trend analyses, charts, and matrices, enabling users to explore data effortlessly.

Key Insights Uncovered:

  • Top products included Tires and Tubes, with Shorts topping the list of returned items.
  • Monthly orders have experienced a decrease as compared to the previous month.
  • Monthly return rate has also decreased which is considered as a positive point.
  • A revenue spike in January 2021 was followed by stabilization.
  • Bikes had the highest return rate at 3.18% among all categories sold.
  • Clothing is the lowest-performing category with 7,000 orders, a 2.2% return rate, and $365,000 in revenue.
  • The United States dominates the proportion of total orders compared to Canada, Australia, and Europe.

Actionable Steps: Based on these insights, the company should focus on reducing bike return rates, investigating the January 2021 revenue spike, optimizing product offerings and pricing, retaining high-revenue customers, exploring expansion in the US market, and maintaining KPI-driven performance.

I invite you to explore the "Bike Shop Monthly Report" dashboard and witness the power of data-driven decision-making. Your feedback is highly valued as I continue my journey in the world of data analytics.

👉 Special mention to Maven Analytics for helping me to build a solid foundation in PowerBI through its course.
