Goals

My goals were to answer the following questions:

1. Create interactive dashboard, which will show us population of chosen countries.
2. Show in KPI’s and sparkline charts population of the following countries: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Poland.
3. Compare that countries using line chart.
4. What is the top 10 countries with the highest population over years?
5. Show Europe map with total population per each country, also growth rate in percentage.
6. Is there any more insights what we can look into.

Approach

My main approach was to make the interactive dashboard with parameters and reference lines, which will helps the viewer to understand and filter data as they want. For example, stakeholder is able to choose parameter, and dashboard will show all data depending of chosen year.

Data Cleaning

On the beginning I have tried to understand each column and what they represent. After that, I have created pivot table of columns with population for each year. That pivot table allowed me to get DATE(YEAR).

Secondly, I have created parameter with each year from pivot table. That allows me to connect parameter with charts on dashboard.

Data Visualization

I have used "easy to understand" wording so that anyone can go through the dashboard and understand what is it about. Tableau was used as it provides deep customization of the charts.

Interactive KPI’s, charts and maps have been used to make the dashboard more easily to use and get quicker insights.
