Restaurant Sales Performance

About this project

This project analyzed sales performance for a pizza restaurant for the year of 2015. The data was obtained from Maven Analytics' Data Playground.

Business Questions

  • What were the busiest month(s) and day(s) of week?
  • What times of day were the most orders placed?
  • How many pizzas do customers typically order a time? What sizes?
  • What are the best sellers? Are there any pizzas that are not selling and should be removed from the menu?

Insights

  • Peak hours at the restaurant are during lunchtime, from 12pm to 2pm, and again during dinner, 5pm to 7pm.
  • Fridays were the busiest, with an average of 70 orders, and Sundays were the least busy on average, with around 50 orders.
  • The busiest month of the year was July.
  • A little over a third (~38%) of all orders contained one pizza.
  • The best-selling pizza overall was "The Big Meat", size small, with 1,914 orders.
  • The pizza type (all sizes included) that sold the most was "The Classic Deluxe", with 2,453 sales
  • The "Brie Carre" pizza, in the Supreme category, was the least ordered pizza type every month, although it did bring in orders each month. It is only available in one size, small.

Recommendations

  • Since a higher percentage of orders are only for one pizza, consider running a special for a second pizza at a discounted price.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and supplies for the busiest days, months, and times to ensure all orders can be fulfilled in a timely manner
  • The Brie Carre appear to be least popular pizza on the menu; however, it is still bringing in orders every month, more during the lunch hours. The ingredients on the pizza may appeal to fewer people. Consider running a lunch special for a month to increase visibility. If sales do not increase, assess removing the pizza from the menu.
