HCAHPS Patient Survey Analysis

Project Focus

This focus of this project was about delving into data concerned with the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers Survey (HCAHPS) which had collected results based on patient perspectives during their visit while in the hospital anywhere from 2015-2023.

Survey Insight

The HCAHPS consisted of 19 questions in total that were based on 10 essential categories/measures including: Communication with Nurses, Communication with Doctors, Responsiveness of Hospital Staff, Communication about Medicines, Discharge Information, Care Transition, Cleanliness of Hospital Environment, Quietness of Hospital Environment, Overall Hospital Rating, and Willingness to Recommend the Hospital.

Project Goal

The goal was to evaluate whether the survey had been successful in creating incentives for the hospitals to improve their quality of care for their patients based on the provided feedback.

Leading Questions

Some important questions asked included:

  • Have hospitals' HCAHPS scores improved over the past few years?
  • Are there any specific areas where hospitals have made more progress than others?
  • Are there any major areas of opportunity remaining?
  • What recommendations can you make to hospitals to help them further improve the patient experience?

Project Impact

The impact of this project was significant for the American Hospital Association and ultimately paved the way for a data-driven approach to healthcare management, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and elevating patient care standards across the board.
