The Challenge:
I am thrilled to share a POWER BI dashboard on "MAVEN FAMILY LEAVE CHALLENGE" that I have created through my learning process.
Thanks to Maven Analytics for this dataset #analytics #mavenfamilyleavechallenge.
The Dataset: MAVEN DATA PLAYGROUND
This dataset contains a CSV table with 1,600 records, one for each company.
Each record contains the company's name & industry, as well as crowdsourced information on the paid & unpaid weeks off they offer as part of both their maternity & paternity leave policies (when available).
The Approach:
Tool Used: POWER BI
Understanding the Data: Deep diving into the dataset to understand the data properly with the help of the data dictionary provided along with the dataset.
Data clean-up: I have cleaned the data in Power Query Editor using the following steps-
Firstly I replaced the N/A values in the industry column with "Others". Then as some of the companies haven't disclosed their parental leave policies, I replaced all the N/A values in the Maternity & Paternity Leave columns with "null" and changed the data type to decimal numbers so that average measures could be created using these columns and lastly, I split the Industry column into Industry and Sub-Industry columns to so that analysis could be done on a more granular level.
Creating Measures and Calculated Columns: I have created measures and calculated columns to show important insights on the data set, mostly AVERAGE, CALCULATE, BUTTON used for switching dashboards and DIVIDE DAX functions are used in this project.
Designing Dashboard: As the company is writing a journal on parental leave policies, I have tried to use simple graphs and attractive infographics to make the dashboard much more interesting and easily understandable for the general public.
