A challenge from Maven Analytics.
1.The objective of this project is to "create an impactful visual" to be used as part of an online business journal on parental leave policies.
2.Potential analysis aspects
- Maternity vs Paternity leave
- Paid leave weeks
- Industries & Companies
3.Data Exploration
- < 20% companies appear with paternity leave => main focus will be maternity leave
- "Industry" data is explored to split into "Main industry" and "Sub industry" => Use "Main industry" to gather insights
- Number of companies vary from 1 to 327, therefore data of industries with small number of companies will be greatly skewed => Require a deeper analysis to highlight the parental leave policies of large industries.
- Data has some outliers, e.g, paid weeks can be vary from 24 up to 52 weeks while there are 52 weeks a year. IQR is used to detect outliers, and the calculation of paid weeks among small-to-large industries only use non-outlier data points.
4.Key findings:
- Philanthropy provides the most favorable parental leave policies for both mothers and fathers, indicating that philanthropic organizations strongly promote social benefits.
- Among all small to large industries, Finance is in Top 5 industries offering a good range of paid weeks of parental leave.
- Among large industries, Finance, Technology & IT have the best parental leave policies. 50% companies in these sectors provide moms after childbirth more than 13 paid weeks off.
