GOAL
To compare the performance of COVID-19 vaccines administered against the supplies received at the same time for each member state for targeted decision-making at Africa CDC
METHODOLOGY
I gathered the supply data for the individual countries by date in a workbook and merged the data into on table using Power Query Editor. The data for dses administered was downloaded off Our World in Data as a csv file and cleaned up. Both were exported to Power Bi for visualisation. A slicer to filter by country in Africa was added.
BUSINESS NEEDS
There was a need to have a bird's eye view of how the COVID-19 vaccine supplies were being utilized in each member state and the continent at large. This will help decision-makers, especially at Africa CDC, and COVDP, in deciding where to support more vaccination and which countries to seek more supplies for.
KEY INSIGHTS
When visualised it is easy to see the peaks and dips for both parameters for the continent and for each country as well as the relationship between them at any given time. This also shows that for the continent the vaccines were not being utilized at the rate at which they were coming in. Also the vaccines were not readily available at the beginning of the pandemic when they were much needed which sparked the debate on vaccine equity. Supplies peaked only a year after when Africa started getting donations from the global north. Concerted vaccination efforts led to a significant increase number of people vaccinated which peaked in July 2022 and leveled off at about 10 million after that.
