__STYLES__
This project aims to visually explore and narrate the evolution of LEGO from 1970 to 2022, uncovering the secrets of its enduring success. Through engaging storytelling, user-friendly visualizations, and insightful data analysis, we will delve into LEGO's rich history, revealing key trends and captivating facts that have solidified its place as a timeless icon.
The primary data source is a dataset scraped from Brickset. While minor inaccuracies have been identified during website verification, data integrity is assumed through sampling and cleaning.
The project began with a thorough exploration of the dataset and its source to assess accuracy and legitimacy. Additionally, extensive web research on LEGO's history informed the project's scope and direction.
A significant effort was made to identify and rectify data inconsistencies. By sampling data points and verifying them against the original website, a low error rate was confirmed. Subsequent cleaning used Excel to ensure maximum data integrity.
Through meticulous analysis, three key insights emerged:
Right skewness in key metrics: Indicates a concentration of data on the lower end, with outlier exceptions for more complex and expensive sets.
The strong correlation between price, pieces, and age restriction: Higher piece counts and prices are associated with older age groups.
The exponential growth of new themes and subthemes from 1996: Suggests strategic licensing and market expansion strategies.
Tableau was the primary tool for data visualization, including the creation of calculation fields for deeper analysis.
By delving into LEGO's evolution from 1970 to 2022 through data analysis and engaging storytelling, this project aims to uncover the secrets of its enduring success. Utilizing user-friendly visualizations and informative insights, it offers a captivating exploration of LEGO's journey. I believe this project presents valuable findings and insights that will be of interest to the Maven community.
