Carolina CAT, part of the Weisiger Group, wanted to modernize reporting and empower teams to make faster, data-driven decisions. Most reporting was trapped in massive Excel workbooks that required hours of manual updates each week. Analysts spent more time preparing data than uncovering insights, and upskilling efforts were falling short.

“We were deeply entrenched in Excel — every team had its own version of the same report,” said Joe Talton, VP of Finance. “Maven’s Power BI training helped us replace those manual processes with consistent, automated dashboards.”

The Solution

Partnering with Maven Analytics, Carolina CAT created a scalable, department-wide learning framework to evolve reporting, automate processes, and close skill gaps.

  • Built a common data language: Every new analyst completed Maven’s Power BI Desktop course, establishing shared standards for DAX, documentation, and design.

  • Automated workflows: Accounting teams replaced time-consuming spreadsheets with automated Power Query and Power BI reports.

  • Upskilled FP&A and empowered self-service: All FP&A members completed Maven training, moving reporting from static Excel files to dynamic Power BI dashboards accessible anytime. 

The Results

The transformation delivered measurable results across the business:

  • Automation impact: A manual commission report once requiring a full-time employee to maintain is now fully automated in Power BI.

  • Financial performance: Real-time visibility for sales reps has reduced DSO and improved cash flow.

  • Operational efficiency: Service team reports that once took hours of manual work are now live dashboards that are mostly automated.

  • Culture shift: Upskilling is now part of the culture with over 5,000 lessons completed, 124% average skill improvement, and a 9.5/10 satisfaction score reflect a lasting data-driven culture.
