Purpose
The aim of this project was to present a progress report on Apple's carbon neutral journey.
Tools
- Power BI: This was created in Power BI through mostly standard visualizations except the trend bar chart which uses Deneb. Deneb just allows infinite customizations to create simple but beautiful charts.
Approach
I used the following framework to design the message I wanted the visualization to tell:
Background and purpose: Will Apple achieve it's goal of carbon neutrality in 2030. The data we have is up to 2022 so the report needs to detail progress up to 2022 and then a future outlook.
Important key measures summary: Before going into the detail, giving high level key measures will provide the audience context. In the report design, I've listed 4 metrics and based on where we are at now. Additionally we have included context through additional wording. This allows cold readers to get better context even though it takes up lots of space.
What, Why and How: I focused on two sections here- 1. Current state: How did we achieve our carbon reductions to date and 2. Future state: Will we achieve our carbon targets in 2023 (this answers the key takeaway in the report).
