Apple Emissions Insights

About this project

Data Overview This dataset comprises three CSV tables. The first table, named "Greenhouse Gas Emissions," presents a comprehensive breakdown of Apple's greenhouse gas emissions from 2015 to 2022. It categorizes emissions by corporate and product life cycle, scopes (direct scope 1 emissions and indirect scope 2 and 3 emissions), and distinguishes between emissions and removals.

The second table, "Carbon Footprint by Product," focuses specifically on emissions related to the product life cycle of all baseline iPhone models released between 2015 and 2022.

The third table, "Normalizing Factors," offers additional context by providing information about Apple's revenue, market capitalization, and employee numbers during the same period.

Objective Our primary aim is to analyze whether there is a declining trend in the total emissions.

Goal Apple has established a clear emissions reduction goal. They have set the emissions for 2015 at 38.4 million metric tons of CO2e as the baseline. Their target is to reduce these emissions by 75% by the year 2030. To achieve this, they plan to offset the remaining 25% of gross emissions, equivalent to 9.6 million metric tons of CO2e, through the use of carbon offsets, ultimately bringing their net emissions down to zero.

The key question is whether the total emissions will indeed reach 9.6 million metric tons by the year 2030.
