Greenhouse Gas Emissions by Apple

About this project

In this project, 3 datasets were provided in the form of CSV, Greenhouse gas emissions, Carbon Footprint by Product, and Normalizing Factors.

Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat inside the earth, causing the temperature to rise, this in the long run will melt the polar ice caps causing sea levels to rise, which is bad for society considering there are billions of people living near the coasts and in the Islands. As a major electronic company, Apple aims to reduce their Carbon footprint to reduce carbon emissions or greenhouse gas emissions, this way, Apple will be able to contribute to the prevention of Global warming.

Insights on the overall trend of Carbon emission reduction and Carbon footprints were compared, to see if there is any relationship between these variables. Although the correlation coefficient is not very strong between carbon footprint and Carbon emission (-0.06), it can be clearly seen in the overall trend that they follow the same pattern throughout the years.

Apple started its efforts to decrease Carbon Emissions in 2015, however, it failed to decrease Carbon emissions in 2017 due to several iPhone Releases that the public demanded (iPhone 8 and iPhone XS) with that, Carbon emissions significantly increased. Apple, however, did not stop its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, in 2018, upon the release of iPhone XS, Apple was able to decrease C02 emissions, from -42% reduction to 34% reduction in CO2 emissions.

With Apple's continuous efforts, while increasing its employees as it continues to grow, it is expected that Apple will be able to Achieve at least 76% Reduced Carbon emissions in 2030, and will be Carbon neutral as early as 2028.
