Word Cup Analysis

Motivation for the Project: As a dedicated football fan, I've always been curious about how different continents fare in the World Cup. I wanted to go beyond the scores and see the real story behind each continent's journey. This project is born out of a passion for the sport and a desire to uncover hidden insights.

Project Description: The goal of this project was to analyze the performance of continents in the FIFA World Cup, spanning multiple tournaments. The business need was to understand the strengths and weaknesses of teams from various regions to gain insights that could inform future strategies.

Approach:

1. Data Cleaning: The first step involved cleaning the data using SQL and Excel. This ensured that the dataset was accurate and ready for analysis.
2. Data Analysis: SQL was used to perform in-depth data analysis. This included calculating win percentages, total goals, and other key performance metrics for each continent.
3. Visualization: Power BI was employed to create interactive and visually appealing dashboards. These visualizations helped in presenting the data in a meaningful and comprehensible way. Analysis Argentina's Path to Glory Compared to Previous Winners In the 2022 World Cup, Argentina clinched the championship with six wins, but four of them were in regular 90-minute play. Comparing Argentina's performance to previous World Cup winners reveals similarities in the win count. However, relying on penalty shootouts for two crucial victories sets Argentina apart from some past winners. The analysis considers penalty shootout wins as legitimate victories in knockout stages.

Host Countries' Performance in World Cups Over Time I Examined the performance of host countries in various FIFA World Cups. This analysis highlights Qatar's challenging experience in 2022, where they didn't secure any wins. Compares host nations' performance, ranging from victories to modest results.

Performance of Continents In this section, i analyzed the performance of continents in FIFA World Cups. Highlights South America's dominance with 11 wins. Acknowledges Australia had a balanced performance with 2 wins. Africa had a competitive presence with 9 wins. Asia also had a challenging tournament with 5 wins. North America's resilience despite fewer wins. European dominance in the competition with 24 wins.

Win Percentage by Continents This section provides win percentages for each continent in the FIFA World Cup. South America had a strong performance with a 61.1% win percentage. Australia's had a competitive performance with a 50.0% win percentage. Africa also had a competitive presence with a 45.0% win percentage. Europe had a dominance despite a 42.9% win percentage. Asia challenges with a 29.4% win percentage. North America also put up a fair performance with a 23.1% win percentage.

Discoveries: Through this analysis, i discovered the varying levels of success and competitiveness among continents. South America stood out with an impressive win percentage, while North America faced notable challenges. This project uncovered valuable insights that can inform future football strategies and provide a deeper understanding of the sport's dynamics on a global scale.
