About this project

Project Description:

I analyzed the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results for the previous 9 years (2015-2023). American Hospital Association (AHA) started the HCAHPS initiative to provide a standardized survey instrument for measuring patients' perspectives on hospital care and incentivize hospitals to improve their quality of care.

Project Objective:

The goal of the analysis is to discover whether HCAHPS has been successful in providing incentives for hospitals to improve patient care.

Business Needs:

HCAHPS survey results can impact the financial incentives and penalties that hospitals receive under the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program

Project Approach:

The report is organized into three different sections

  1. Provides a holistic view of the quality of patient care at the national level over the last 9 years and at the state level for the most recent year. The report examines various categories of survey measures, such as Overall Hospital Rating, Communication and Responsiveness of Staff, Discharge Planning and Care Transition, and Hospital Environments.
  2. An interactive dashboard that allows users to explore the national-level results for a specific year.
  3. An interactive dashboard that allows users to explore the regional and state-level results for a specific year.
