Sankey Diagram for Prisons Statistics

Sankey Diagram for Prisons Statistics

About this project

I leveraged data from the U.S. Department of Justice, focusing on the detailed breakdown of total U.S. incarceration by sex and ethnicity during COVID. This dataset offers valuable insights into the experiences of the 0.7% of Americans who were incarcerated up until 2021.

Sankey charts are not only visually appealing but also provide a unique way to represent data flows and transitions. They are like storytelling with data, where the flows and their widths narrate the story of your data. In this project, I used Sankey charts to showcase what was happening to incarcerated individuals, presenting a deeper understanding of their journey.

To create these captivating Sankey charts, I utilized Tableau Public online, which offers all the necessary functionality for crafting visually stunning visualizations. I focused on keeping the data simple and well-structured to maximize the effectiveness of the charts.

Please note that this project is a work in progress, and I am continually refining the data, improving labeling, and adding interactive elements. Stay tuned for more updates.
