Nigeria has been predominantly ruled by 2 major parties in the last decade; the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress(APC). Therefore, an analysis of the Nigerian demography and the previous (2015 and 2019) general elections is useful in preparation for the 2023 election.
Data Source and Approach: The Nigerian general elections data (2015 and 2019) and the Nigerian demography data were accessed from Wikipedia. I further grouped presidential election results by geopolitical regions to gain insights of election results for each region.
Insights: There has been an exponential increase in Nigeria's population Nigeria is mostly populated by individuals between the age of 15-64 and less populated by those above 64 There are more registered voters for the 2019 elections compared to the 2015 elections but there is less turnout for votes in 2019 The North has the highest amount of votes for the 2 elections (One and a half of total Southern votes) South East has the least number of votes for the 2 election The North West region produced the highest election votes for the 2 elections There is a general decline in all southern votes for the 2019 general elections APC dominates all sections of the general elections
