About this project

Background

Springforth University conducted a survey among 1,200 students to understand the prevalence of food insecurity and its impact on academic performance. The survey findings revealed a significant number of students experiencing hunger and a correlation between food insecurity and reduced effectiveness in class.

Goals/Task

  1. Provide insights to help the University in making an informed decision on the need to set up the foodbank to be sponsored by UNESCO.
  2. Provide a brief presentation report that justifies why a foodbank should be set up at Springforth University to TOP STAKEHOLDERS.

Methodology The project utilized survey data from students to analyze their perceptions of food insecurity, hunger, and its impact on academic performance. Descriptive analysis was conducted using MS Excel, focusing on key indicators such as food affordability, attention span, employment status, and financial sources.

Insights

  1. The majority of students recognized the occasional impact of food on their attention span in class.
  2. Students reported experiencing hunger, which negatively affected their effectiveness and academic performance.
  3. Financial support from guardians and self-sponsorship was significant across academic years.
  4. Students living off-campus and unemployed were more likely to skip meals.

Recommendations

  1. Establish a foodbank on campus to address food insecurity among students and the low-income community.
  2. Seek sponsorship and collaboration with UNESCO to support the foodbank initiative.
  3. Collaborate with local organizations specializing in food security and community development.
  4. Promote awareness and education on nutrition and healthy eating habits.
  5. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the foodbank initiative, collecting feedback and measuring impact on academic performance.

By implementing these recommendations, Springforth University can create a supportive environment, alleviate hunger, and promote academic success among students.
