For this challenge, I am working as a Data Visualization Specialist at an online business journal. My role is to create charts, visuals, and infographics as supporting content for articles. My company is writing a piece on parental leave policies across the business world.
I have divided my approach of this task in 4 different steps.
The whole template was created using Figma. I decided to use the Lavender color and its different shades as it signifies the visual I am trying to create and make an impact at the first glance. I have tried to not be generic in terms of Pink and Blue for Ma and Pa.
Chart #1: Waffle Chart shopping the records for the number of leaves provided my companies showing the availability and the sampled data for the consequent charts. paternity leaves were about 82% and 92% in the NA category and hence needed to be shown.
Chart #2: Average leaves (in weeks) for Maternity and Paternity for both Paid and Unpaid sections using the box matrix.
Chart #3: Doughnut/Percentage chart showing the similarities and differences between companies' approach.
Chart #4: Line + Area chart depicting the number of leaves provided by companies and the most preferred weeks.
Chart #5: Calendar chart to show the range of months the companies opt to give leaves for Paid maternity.
Chart #6: Acknowledgement of the only 20 companies who provide Paid Maternity leaves for 1 year.
Chart #7: Stacked Bar Chart showing the total number of leaves provided by top 10 companies and industries across the dataset.
This dataset contains a csv table with 1,601 records, one for each company. Each record contains the company's name & industry, as well as crowdsourced information on the paid & unpaid weeks off they offer as part of both their maternity & paternity leave policies (when available).
