Maven Family Leave Challenge - Industries And Companies Where She Is Not Left Out

About this project

The challenge provides parental leave policies data of 1,600 companies and 50 different industries around the world.

Since the task at hand is to create an impactful visual about the different parental leave policies of different companies, and in celebration of Women's History Month, I decided to just focus on the parental leave policies of women.

I started my project by identifying the standards or what kind of parental leave policies should be granted to women. This resulted in the "Did You Know?" section of my project wherein I specified what kind of parental leave policies every woman should have. I used the recommendation of the International Labour Organization as my reference for determining what kind and how long should maternity leave be.

As I already have an idea of how long should maternity leave be, I analyzed the average maternity leave of every industry and came up with just a list of 14 industries that meet the recommendation of the ILO. These industries were my starting point for which companies I should focus on analyzing throughout the report.

Aside from the average maternity leave, I also checked the paid maternity leave of the shortlisted industries. It was good to discover that all the industries provide more paid maternity leave than unpaid maternity leave. It shows that these industries are the industries that women are not left out.

Lastly, I wanted to identify which companies are providing good parental leave policies for women. This has led me to come up with a list of companies that belong to the shortlisted industries. The main criteria I used for choosing the companies were the company's total maternity leave and its total paid maternity leave percentage (what percent of the total maternity leave is paid), sorted from highest to lowest. Because of the limitations of the report, I only focused the ranking on the top 5 companies of each industry. After the ranking, I highlighted the companies that offer 52 weeks of paid maternity leave (max) and are providing 100% paid maternity leave.
