Business case:
The business case for this project is to inform and educate readers on the current state of parental leave policies.
What was my goal?
- This project aimed to create a visualization for an online article on parental leave policies worldwide.
- The goal was to analyze a dataset of 1600 companies across 51 industries and identify patterns in their maternity and paternity leave policies.
- The insights gained from the analysis were used to create an informative and visually appealing infographic for the article.
- For this challenge, I was posing as a Data Visualization Specialist at an online business journal, so special care was taken to use simple graphs that common people could easily understand.
- The dashboard is designed like an Infographics online article.
Key insights:
- Of 1,600 companies analyzed, 96.1% offer paid maternity leave, but only 16.1% provide paid paternity leave.
- The dataset reveals that some companies offer up to 52 weeks of paid maternity leave.
- Grant Thornton is the only company in the dataset that provides up to 51 weeks of paid paternity leave.
- On average, women can expect about 10-11 weeks of maternity leaves, and men can expect around 10 days of paternity leaves.Philanthropy is one of the top industries providing maximum paid maternity and paternity leaves.
Final thoughts:
Overall, companies must review their parental leave policies and strive to offer equal and inclusive benefits for all employees, regardless of gender.
