About this project

Gathering Data

I have a data set consisting of two separate tables named Resorts and Snow. The data is provided in 2 separate csv files.

Exploring Data

The data has information about 499 ski resorts from different countries.

In the Resorts table, the data consists of Resort IDs, Resort Names, Resort’s Latitude & Longitude (which means we have geographical fields that can be used for Map visualizations). We also have the Resort Location Names and Prices (in Euros), Seasons data for different ski resorts, information about the total number of slopes at a resort, different slopes difficulty levels at the resorts, Slope Lifts, and more data about if the Resorts have Snow Parks, Night Skiing, and Summer Skiing.

The Snow table only has four columns named Month of the snow, snow’s Latitude & Longitude, and Snow (percentage of the time the region was covered in snow during this month). Here, we have snow data from 1/1/2022 to 12/1/2022, for the 1st of every month, for different latitudes and longitudes.

Preparing Data in Excel

After saving the data in Excel, I see that there are no NULL values, but there are many unnecessary question marks in Resort names. Once I find & replace these question marks, the data looks consistent and properly formatted.

Analyzing Data with Tableau

Next, I import these 2 tables to Tableau and create a Relationship between them based on Latitude and Longitude columns. Once I start analyzing this data, I find out some very interesting facts, which can help people select their perfect ski resort based on various recreational and pricing factors.

Interesting insights & Findings

· Austria has maximum number of ski resorts (89), followed by France (81) and USA (78).

· Total of only 7 resorts have it all. They have night skiing, summer skiing, snow parks and are child friendly.

· The slopes at most of the resorts are of intermediate level. Users can select the country and resort and find the different slope levels available at that resort.

· Users can also select a season and see which resorts are open during that season.

· This interactive Tableau dashboard also allows the users to select a resort based on different kinds of amenities.

· The highest point is at Breckenridge resort at 3,914.
