As the new analyst at Maven Supplies, you are tasked with building an interactive dashboard in Power BI that can be used to explore business performance and highlights any areas of improvements to help optimise operations.
The shipping data covers the period of Jan'15 to Feb'18 and is extracted from the company's database as csv data files.
What were my goals:
- Conduct query editor data prep steps
- Build out a proper data model
- Add calculations (columns and measures)
- Create a dynamic user-facing dashboard
What were the business needs:
A Power BI dashboard that can be used for exploratory analysis to help Maven Supplies improve their business.
How was this achieved & what insights were found:
I achieved this by presenting a dashboard for the management to uncover the insights interactively through filters. This was presented across 2 pages:
- Track Monthly Revenue from Orders by Year: Downward trend from Oct'17.
- Total Orders by Product Dept. : 3 of the top 5 performing depts. have no orders placed in 2018.
- Revenue & Profit attribution by Category: (linked to above)
- Identifying top and bottom performing : Products & Customer.
- Delivery Status: 57% of orders were delivered late. This could be further explored in Delivery Status page.
- Total Orders by Hub: Changes in hubs used for processing orders could be impacting performance.
- Delivery Status: Showing if company was meeting it's shipping targets
- % of orders that were delivered late: 57% of orders were delivered late
- Delivery status over time: There is no seasonality trends impacting performance.
- Delivery status by shipping mode: The faster modes had the highest late delivery.
- Delivery status by transaction & order status: Payment & Transfer transaction options caused payment clearing delays and should not be payment options for the faster shipping modes. This will improve late delivery performance.
