__STYLES__
The visualization was developed for the Onyx Data #DataDNA dataset challenge.
Plan:
As the Plan was to provide a clean and single-page report with an overview of Netflix , I tried to focus on
• Telling a progressive story with a structure, tiles
• Clear in terms of visuals, consistent color palette, and legibility of any text
Approach:
I used a dark theme color palette, to resonate with users of the Netflix brand when they see the report.
I split the report into three sections – releasing trends, content generation by countries, leading genre, and ratings. I used the Gestalt principles of proximity and symmetry in creating tiles to make the user see the related visuals together.
In terms of the data, I have filtered out all 2021 data, as the date is not present for the whole year.
Key Questions:
• What are popular days to release shows?
• What formats are most popular?
• Which countries are producing the most shows?
• What genre shows are most produced?
Key Insights:
• Number of shows added per year has significantly increased from 2015, with 2019 being the year with the highest releases.
• Movies take up 69% of the content while TV shows account for 31%. No wonder why people prefer shorter formats to get their entertainment.
• US produces more content followed by India and UK.
• Friday tops the number of releases on Netflix followed by Thursday. People want to relax towards the weekend and Netflix targeting to release more numbers based on viewers' preferences.
• Most titles (40.8 %) are available for adults with TV-MA ratings.
• Dramas and Comedies Genre are the most produced content on Netflix.
