Maven Toy Store Analytics: A Comprehensive Sales and Performance Analysis Using Power BI

About this project

Project Description: The Maven Toy Store Analytics project involved analyzing operational and sales data of a U.S.-based toy company operating for the past two years with 50 stores across 29 cities. Using Power BI, a star schema data model was implemented, integrating five key tables: Products, Inventory, Stores, Sales, and Calendar. Data cleaning and transformation steps included handling null values, duplicates, incorrect data types, and creating additional date-based fields such as Year, Month, Quarter, and Week for time-based analysis.

The Sales table served as the fact table, linked to dimension tables using relationships. Additional columns were added to calculate metrics like Total Cost, Total Revenue, and Profit using the DAX RELATED function. Key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Total Revenue ($14.44M), Total Units Sold (1.091M), and Total Profit ($4M) were created alongside other metrics to provide comprehensive insights.

The analysis identified top-performing products (LegoBricks), low-performing products (PlaydohCan), and the best and worst-performing stores (Ciudad de Mexico 2 and Campeche 2, respectively). Slicers for category, month, and year were implemented for interactive analysis, and visualizations such as bar charts, line charts, and pie charts were used to present insights.

The project provided actionable recommendations to optimize inventory, improve underperforming stores, and capitalize on successful product categories, enabling strategic decision-making and operational efficiency.
