About this project

In the quest to become the most popular trick-or-treating house on the block for the Maven Halloween Challenge, I have adopted a comprehensive, data-driven strategy to evaluate and rank candies effectively. This approach focuses on analyzing key metrics that influence candy desirability, specifically:

  • Win Percentage: The historical success of each candy among trick-or-treaters.
  • Sugar Percentage: The amount of sugar in each candy, with a preference for lower sugar content for the well-being of children.
  • Price Percentage: The cost of each candy relative to its competitors, aiming for affordability.

To systematically rank the candies, I devised a Scoring Formula that prioritizes these three critical factors. The formula weighs each component as follows:

  1. Win Percent: Heavily weighted at 50%, this factor reflects the candy's popularity and success rate among children (or other candy-eater).
  2. Sugar Percent: Weighted at 30%, I utilize an inverted scoring system (1 - Sugar Percent) to favor candies with lower sugar content.
  3. Price Percent: Weighted at 20%, this component uses an inverted score to emphasize cost-effectiveness.

The final scoring formula is as follows:

Score = (Win Percent × 0.5) + ((1−Sugar Percent)×0.3)+((1−Price Percent)×.2)

Additionally, the project features a user-friendly interface that allows users to apply filters to customize their candy selection. This functionality enables users to hide or show specific options and view the current active filters, enhancing the overall user experience.
