About this project

Treat-O-Ween a Sweet Analysis Infographic.

Project Summary

Objective: Using online votes ranking 85 types of candy, find the 3 treats to be given out on Halloween to guarantee that trick-or-treaters of all tastes find something they'll love and present the data to back up your decision.

Key Findings

  • Popular Candy Choices: Identified four top categories for possible candy purchases.
  • Allergy Warning: There are 71 nut/allergy free candy options.
  • Sugar Content: Given candy’s nature of being sugar based, there were some options for low sugar treats. Top low sugar pick was Sour Patch Kids.
  • Popular Candy Types: Fruity and Chocolate were top choices with an average of 37.5 candies in those categories.
  • Unpopular Choices: Five candies found their way to the 'Don't Waste Your category. This was based on a popularity (winpercent) of less than 30.

Dashboard Overview

Interactive Power BI Dashboard: This project takes the shape of a user-friendly, infographic style dashboard. Custom 'candy category' slicer created to further filter the analysis results. Additional overview of the data such as Sugar to Price comparison and Pricing group vs Candy Popularity.

Main Dashboard Key Visualizations:

  • Top Candy Picks: Top 3 choices along with best options for Low Sugar, Nut Free and Multipack purchase.
  • Allergy Warning: List all the nut/allergen free candy options.
  • Top 10 Candies: Top candies based on their popularity (winpercent) score. Also includes as informative tool tip that provides more detail candy information for the top choices.
  • Data Overview: Table graphic to display the candy information.
  • Clustered Column Chart: Pricing groups and how they related to candy types.
  • Scatter Plot: Sugar to Pricing percentile comparison.

Additional Insights

Price Range vs Candy Categories: The Pricing Percentile (pricepercent) was grouped into the following ranges:

Price Ranges: Low (0-40%), Mod(40-70%) & High >70%

undefinedHere are the findings from the above graphic:

  • Low range - Fruity is most popular followed by hard candy.
  • Moderate range - Nutty and Fruity are tops. A majority of the 'Nutty' candies are also chocolate based.
  • High range – Candy Bars are the top high price candy. Again, the majority of candy bars are also chocolate based.

This confirms the early finding that the two most popular types of candies are Fruity and Chocolate based.

How does Sugar Effect Price?: Sugar content was grouped by the following sweetness levels:

Sugar Groups: High is anything over 55%. Medium (20-55%). Low is anything less than a 20% sugar content.

undefinedThere are some trends noted by the straight lines. Most popular pricing percentiles were 32% and 51% as they have the most candy items.

Recommendations

Correct Nutritional Information:

  1. Sugar Content Errors: A few items, chocolate based, were found to have incorrect sugar percentages. Valid nutritional information was easy to find; if more data will be collected on food, this information needs to be used in the data collecting phase.

Next Steps

Have Fun!: This analysis was meant to be a fun project in Power BI while still conveying valuable information.

Purchase With Confidence: With multiple options for sorting the data based on one’s candy preferences, you can feel confident that there will be no candy left from the Trick-or-Treaters that knock at your door. How to attract said Trick-or-Treaters is anyone's guess.
