About this project

Goals

The primary goal of this project was to create a comprehensive set of dashboards to analyze various aspects of flight data, including total flights, cancellations, and delays. The aim was to provide stakeholders with actionable insights to improve operational efficiency, enhance customer satisfaction, and optimize resource allocation.

Business Needs

The aviation industry faces numerous challenges, such as flight delays, cancellations, and varying performance across airlines and regions. The business needed a robust analytical tool to:

  1. Monitor Flight Performance: Track the number of flights, cancellations, and delays over time.
  2. Identify Problem Areas: Pinpoint specific airlines, states, or time periods with higher rates of cancellations and delays.
  3. Understand Causes: Analyze the reasons behind flight cancellations and delays to implement targeted improvements.
  4. Optimize Operations: Use data-driven insights to enhance scheduling, resource management, and customer service.

Discovering and Presenting Meaningful Insights

To discover and present meaningful insights, the following steps were taken:

  1. Data Collection and Preparation: Gathered flight data from various sources, including airline reports, airport logs, and weather data. Cleaned and transformed the data using Power Query to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  2. Data Modeling: Created a data model in Power BI to establish relationships between different data tables, enabling efficient querying and analysis.
  3. Visualization: Designed interactive dashboards with Power BI, incorporating various visual elements such as line graphs, bar charts, pie charts, and maps. Each visual was carefully chosen to highlight key metrics and trends.
  4. Analysis: Conducted in-depth analysis to uncover patterns and correlations. For example, identifying peak months for delays, common reasons for cancellations, and airlines with the highest performance issues.
  5. Presentation: Presented the findings through user-friendly dashboards that allow stakeholders to explore the data interactively. Key insights were highlighted with annotations and tooltips to provide context and facilitate decision-making.
  6. Continuous Improvement: Regularly updated the dashboards with new data and refined the visualizations based on user feedback to ensure they remain relevant and useful.

This project not only provided valuable insights into flight operations but also empowered stakeholders to make informed decisions to enhance overall performance and customer experience.
