The Spooky Three: the Ultimate Halloween Treat Trio!

About this project

For The Spooky Three: The Ultimate Halloween Treat Trio, the goal was simple: pick the perfect 3 treats that would make our house the most popular stop for trick-or-treaters. Using online data ranking 85 different types of candy, I set out to find the sweet spot by ensuring there’s something for everyone.

The challenge was not just about picking the most popular candies but finding a trio that covers a range of tastes. By analyzing trends in the data and visualizing key insights, I discovered which candies have the broadest appeal. The result? A perfectly balanced treat lineup that guarantees happy trick-or-treaters and a house known for handing out the best Halloween candy!

Top Three Halloween Treats

  1. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups

    • Win Percentage: 84.18%
    • Category: Chocolate & Nutty
    • Description: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are a classic Halloween treat consisting of a chocolate shell filled with creamy peanut butter. This combination of chocolate and nutty flavor makes them a favorite among trick-or-treaters. Their high win percentage indicates that they are consistently preferred over other candies in head-to-head matchups.
  2. Reese’s Miniatures

    • Win Percentage: 81.87%
    • Category: Chocolate & Nutty
    • Description: Similar to the full-sized Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Reese's Miniatures offer the same delectable peanut butter and chocolate experience but in a smaller, bite-sized form. This convenience makes them popular, especially for sharing. Their strong win percentage reflects their widespread appeal.
  3. Twix

    • Win Percentage: 81.64%
    • Category: Chocolate & Caramel
    • Description: Twix consists of a biscuit base topped with caramel and enrobed in milk chocolate. The combination of textures—crunchy, chewy, and creamy—makes Twix a favorite choice for many candy lovers. Its win percentage shows that it ranks highly among the competition, further establishing its status as a top Halloween treat.

Insights from Visualizations

1. Pie Chart: Candy Popularity by Type

  • The pie chart visually represents the average win percentage by candy category. From your findings, categories like Chocolate & Nutty dominate, indicating that these flavors resonate well with consumers.
  • The high percentages of these categories in the pie chart suggest that most consumers gravitate toward chocolate-based treats, which aligns with the top three candies identified.

2. Bar Chart: Top 3 Treats by Win Percentage

  • This bar chart confirms the strong performance of Reese's products and Twix, allowing for easy comparison. The visual format makes it clear that Reese's Peanut Butter Cups stand out as the clear winner.
  • The bar chart highlights the competitive landscape of candy preferences and allows stakeholders (e.g., marketers, manufacturers) to focus their efforts on these best-selling products.

3. Scatter Plot: Win Percentage vs. Sugar Percentage and Price Percentage

  • The scatter plot can reveal patterns in consumer preferences based on sugar content and price. It may show that candies with moderate sugar levels and competitive pricing tend to have higher win percentages.
  • This visualization can help identify trends, such as whether lower-sugar candies with better pricing perform as well as sweeter options.

Conclusion

Overall, the analysis suggests that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Reese’s Miniatures, and Twix are the best choices for Halloween treats, driven by their appealing flavors and textures. The insights gathered from the various visualizations highlight the significance of chocolate-based candies in the market and provide a roadmap for brands looking to optimize their offerings for Halloween. By focusing on the elements that contribute to high win percentages, such as flavor profiles, pricing, and sugar content, companies can enhance their candy selections to cater to consumer preferences effectively.

Why are Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and Miniatures marked as "Chocolate & Caramel" category when they don't have caramel? Did you just combine these categories instead of flagging them as "chocolate" and "nutty"?
