Unicorn Company Insights

The Maven dataset on unicorns and start-ups provides data on the valuations of unicorns, their location, and industry hubs. Using this data, the following analyses were conducted:

1. Return of investment

2. Average length of time it takes to become a unicorn

3. Top 10 cities with the most industries

4. Top 10 countries where unicorns are predominantly located

5. Top 10 investors who have funded the most unicorns

Some interesting results:

It was interesting to see that Zapier made the most return on investments with the least amount of funding compared to other unicorn start-ups. It would be interesting to explore what Zapier has done differently compared to other unicorns.

The United States followed by China and India continues to dominate with the largest unicorns.

Shanghai had 44 industries valued at $99B whereas London had 34 industries with a higher value of $178B. Perhaps further analysis could be conducted on the type of industries located in these cities to determine its effects on the valuations.
