Power BI (Guided Project) - Adventure Works Report

About this project

The project goal here is to display an executive summary page showing pertinent information for the company owners as well as a deep dive into Product and Customer detail.

Executive Summary

This page displays important information at a quick glance. A user can quickly filter and access the information most important to them for the time period and region they are most interested in. They also have three KPI cards in the top right showing the most recent month's Revenue, Orders, and Returns. You see a quick reference to the most ordered product (Water Bottle - 30 oz), and the highest profit product (Mountain-200 Black, 46).

The vertical Product matrix has a drill-through option to take you to the Product Detail page to learn more about any given product.

Product Detail

By using the drill through on a product name from the Executive Summary page you are taken to the Product Detail page. Here you have a detailed view of a single product. There are three dials that show:

  • Current Month Orders vs Target
  • Current Month Revenue vs Target
  • Current Month Returns vs Prv. Month

There is also a 'Price Adjustment' slider where you can see how weekly profit would change with incrimental price adjustments. While this is currently a simple calculation, you can see how it could be extremely useful for creating sale prices or future price increases. There is also a weekly profit line that utilizes some of the analysis tools, both a trendline and a forecast. Finally there is a weekly return volume for the given product.

Customer Detail

The final page of the report is 'Customer Detail'. On the left you see a vertical matrix with customer names, orders and total revenue. Choosing any customer will filter the rest of the visuals on the page to give details about that individual customer. Three donut charts on the top right of the page show:

  • Orders by gender
  • Orders by income level
  • Orders by Occupation

There is a line and clustered column chart that shows Orders and Revenue by month, this shows the clearly upward trend of the company over the last year and a half. A treemap shows orders by age of customer, and there are details about our top customer at the bottom (name, total orders, and total revenue).
