About this project

Two weeks prior to the world cup I was having a discussion with a friend and he said France was going to win the world cup again.

I definitely didn't like that thought and I said Argentina has what it takes to win the world cup.

To prove my point I got a dataset on the world cup and did some analysis to prove my point.

INSIGHTS FROM ANALYSIS

Argentina has made a total of 17 appearances in the world cup coming in third behind Brazil and Germany.

With two wins and three runner-ups to their name Argentina has a total of 5 world cup trophies. Played a total of 81 matches with 43 wins, 23 losses and 15 draws and scored a total of 137 goals, the third-highest number of goals for any country in the world cup.

Since the last world cup Argentina has played in a total of 5 tournaments, playing 52 matches with 34 wins, 5 losses and 13 draws. with most matches in a friendly tournament.

Their World cup qualifying games were impressive playing a total of 17 matches with no loss to their name, just wins and draws. 11 wins and 6 draws.

Argentina's squad for the 2022 world cup in Qatar consist of most players in the Spanish and Italian league. The average age of players in the squad is 28 years.

The most valuable player for Argentina is none other than Lionel Messi. Having the highest goals scored in the world amongst any player in the squad. currently playing for PSG in the Italian league.

Messi is tied in 4th place for most world cup goals among the top ten players by a number of world cup goals.

Argentina is in group D in the world cup alongside Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Poland.

Mexico had played a total of 57 matches broken down into 16 wins, 27 losses and 14 draws. Mexico has encountered Argentina three times in the world cup and has lost on all three occasions. Saudi Arabia has played a total of 16 matches broken down into 3 wins, 11 losses and 2 draws and Poland has played a total of 34 world cup matches broken down into 16 wins, 13 losses and 5 draws.

Argentina is the strongest team in their group and would definitely advance to the round of 16 and hopefully keep the momentum of their recent games to advance to the finals.

The project was carried out using Power BI and SQL. Queries written in SQL include; Total goals scored

SELECT home_goal.country, (home_goal.home_goals + away_goal.away_goals) as total_goals_scored FROM home_goal INNER JOIN away_goal ON home_goal.country = away_goal.country ORDER BY total_goals_scored DESC

Total matches played
