Project Overview

The King County House Sales Dashboard is a comprehensive Tableau visualization tool designed primarily for potential home buyers. It offers a historical perspective on house sales within King County, Washington. The dashboard features a variety of interactive elements, including:

• A line chart for daily average house sales prices
• A geographical map highlighting average prices across different ZIP codes within King County, WA
• Histograms showing the distribution of house prices, # of bedrooms, and # of bathrooms
• A heatmap that visualizes the type of view (ranging from No view to Excellent view) vs house condition (ranging from Poor to Very Good).

Process

Data Acquisition

The project utilized a dataset made publicly available by Mo Chen on his GitHub repository. This dataset includes extensive records of house sales in King County, providing a solid foundation for the analysis.

Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and Dashboard Development

A key focus of this project was to explore and implement various Tableau functionalities. The dashboard was developed to be user-friendly, offering interactive drill-down elements such as:

• Time Filters: Users can navigate through time using a dropdown menu for month/year selection and a calendar for specific date filtering.
• Slider Filters: The dashboard includes sliders for adjusting the year built, square footage of living space, and lot size, enabling users to tailor the information to their specific interests.

In creating these visualizations, the project aimed to harness Tableau's robust capabilities, focusing on new techniques such as calendar creation and specialized filtering to link specific sheets to individual filters.

Future Recommendations

While currently offering a historical view, future improvements could include integrating more current data or a dataset with a wider range to provide an up-to-date market analysis and visualize trends over several years. It is also recommended to expand the zip code range to look at housing prices outside of King County to get a more comprehensive view of the housing prices within Washington State.
