Are Washington State City Employees Satisfied With Their Jobs?

About this project

The Seattle Department of Public Works recently surveyed about 1500 employees in an effort to measure job satisfaction and identify opportunity to keep their staff motivated and engaged.

What data tell us? Are there any area of improvement?

  • Objective 1 was to explore the data and calculating basic profiling metrics, removing blank and duplicate records, and standardizing inconsistent text fields. About 1% of responses were removed because incomplete, and some other records were removed because containing duplicate values across all fields.
  • Objective 2 was to produce clean source data for visualization by calculating response frequencies and proportions for each of the 10 survey questions. In this step I took advantage of the power of the UNIQUE, COUNTIFS and AVERAGEIFS functions.
  • Objective 3 was to visualize the data using stacked bar charts and derive insights and recommendations to share with the HR leadership team. This is the resulting graph:

undefinedAnalyzing the the data, two main areas of improvement emerge: perceived lack of feedback on the good work done, and lack of friendship between colleagues.

Are there the same issues in your work environment?
