Overview

Crash Data Control is an Excel-based project aimed at understanding and analyzing road accident data. The project involved cleaning messy data, processing it to derive meaningful insights, and then visualizing these insights through charts and graphs. The centerpiece of this project is a dynamic Dashboard, which serves as a real-time control center, displaying all critical information at a glance.

Objectives

  1. Improve Road Safety: Identify patterns and trends in road accidents to inform safety measures and reduce casualties.
  2. Support Urban Planning: Provide data-driven insights to help urban planners design safer roads and intersections.
  3. Enhance Emergency Response: Supply actionable information to improve emergency response times and effectiveness.
  4. Inform Policy Decisions: Offer evidence-based analysis to guide policymakers in implementing effective traffic safety regulations.
  5. Raise Public Awareness: Increase public awareness of road safety issues through clear and accessible data presentation.

Results

Casualties:

  • Fatal casualties recorded: 7,135
  • Serious casualties: 59,312
  • Slight casualties: 351,436
  • Total casualties associated with car accidents: 333,485

Environmental Factors:

  • Most accidents occurred in urban areas.
  • The majority of incidents took place in daylight rather than in the dark.
  • The prevalent road condition during accidents was dry.

Road Characteristics:

  • Accidents were more common on single carriageways compared to other road types.

Impact:

  1. Enhanced Understanding: The project provides a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of road accidents, highlighting significant patterns and trends.
  2. Policy and Planning Support: By identifying high-risk areas and conditions, the insights can support the development of targeted safety measures and urban planning strategies.
  3. Emergency Preparedness: The data can help improve emergency response plans by identifying the most common accident scenarios and locations.
  4. Public Awareness: Clear visualization and real-time updates raise public awareness about road safety, encouraging safer driving practices.
  5. Resource Allocation: The insights enable better allocation of resources, such as funding for road improvements and traffic safety campaigns.

Highlights

  • Data Cleaning: Ensured accuracy and consistency in the data.
  • Visualization: Created engaging charts and graphs.
  • Dashboard: Developed a real-time control center for key information.
  • Analysis Sheet: Summarized key findings in a simple, accessible format.

This project not only showcases the importance of data analysis but also emphasizes the impact of clear and concise presentation.
