MavenFlix Subscriptions Analysis

About this project

This is an analysis of Maven dataset related to Subscription records for MavenFlix, a fictitious video streaming platform. Dataset includes information about ~2,800 subscribers from September 2022 through September 2023.

Steps Fallowed:

I have used Excel for analysis and Visualisation. Each record in the dataset represents an individual customer's subscription, including the subscription cost, created/canceled date, interval, and payment status. From the given information I have extracted the month ,to analyse trends over time. Subscription status was derived based on blank value in cancelled date column, that is if the column is blank that means they are active users and they have not cancelled the subscription.

Subscription duration was calculated by finding difference between created date and cancelled date. The latest data available for cancelled date was 08-09-2023, so for active subscribers I have used 09-09-2023 to find the subscription duration.

Insights from analysis:

Subscriptions Trends:

We have data from september 2022 to september 2023 and for september 2023 only 8 days data is available.

undefinedNumber of subscriptions are increasing over time, the dip in sepetember 2023 is because of incomplete data.

undefinedSubscription Duration:

undefinedWe can see from the above chart that more customers are opting for less than one month of subscriptions. 15% of total customers have subscription for more than 5 months. 30% of customers who are presently subscribed have subscription for more than 5 months and 8% of customers who have already cancelled subscription had subscription for more tha 5 months.

MavenFlix has more customers in August and less customers in November.

Recommendations:

  • As there are less customers who have longer duration subcriptions, giving discounts for yearly or for 6 months of subscriptions will increase customers for longer duartion.
  • More customers cancelled thier subscriptions during first quarter of the year. Giving extra benifits during this period may retain those customer.
