Chicago Crimes Data Analysis

About this project

This dataset reflects reported incidents of crime (with the exception of murders where data exists for each victim) that occurred in the City of Chicago from 2020 to Present

My analysis revealed that overall crime rates in Chicago have shown a gradual decline over the past three years, which is undoubtedly a positive sign. This could be attributed to various community-driven initiatives and law enforcement efforts aimed at enhancing public safety.

Crime Hotspots: Certain neighborhoods continue to experience higher crime rates than others. Austin and Near North Side for example, exhibit a persistent concentration of criminal activity. These findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in these areas.

Promising Initiatives: One bright spot in the data is the reduction in violent crimes. Collaborative efforts between law enforcement, community organizations, and local residents are making a difference in curbing violence. It's a testament to the power of community engagement.

Seasonal Variations: Interestingly, my analysis also revealed seasonal patterns, with crime rates peaking during the summer and at the lowest during Autum months. This suggests the importance of tailored strategies during this period to maintain public safety.

Economic Impact: High crime areas often face challenges in economic development. A closer look at the data revealed a link between reduced crime rates and increased economic opportunities in places like Edison Park, this is emphasizing the importance of addressing crime for the prosperity of the city.

Collaboration is Key: Analysing this dataset reinforced my belief in the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, local government, and community organizations. Together, we can continue to make Chicago a safer place to live, work, and thrive.

Recommendation: If you need to move or invest in Chicago, please avoid Austin.

Acknowledgments: I want to express my gratitude to the city's law enforcement agencies for their dedication to public safety and the residents who are actively working towards a safer, more vibrant Chicago. Together, we can achieve greater things.
