Maven Supplies: At-a-glance look at the health of the Maven Supplies shipping company

About this project

Use Case:

This interactive Power BI dashboard provides the user:

  • an at-a-glace executive level look at the health of Maven Supplies - a fictious global shipping company.
  • the ability to explore deeper into the three key areas of ORDERS, REVENUE and DELIVERY to further assess the performance in each area for this company.

EXECUTIVE LEVEL Key Learnings:

  1. Even though ORDER PLACED are meeting the goal, overall REVENUE has been seriously underperforming (down >50% over previous 3-months).
  2. There is also a serious issue with DELIVERY with <50% of customer orders being completed on-time.

undefined

OPERATIONAL LEVEL Exploratory Understanding:

1. Why is REVENUE underperforming?

  • A key contributor to the decrease in revenue is the change in the ORDER make-up over time. There has been both a decrease in the number and average value of line items per order placed. This suggest that customers are ordering less variety with each order and choosing lower value items.

ACTION ITEM: This should prompt a discussion with the team to revisit ORDER counts as a key performance indicator. Potential options to replace would be TOTAL LINES or TOTAL QUANITY.

undefined

  • Another key contributor to the decrease in revenue is the removal of three high performing products departments in November 2017: Fitness, Footwear and Golf.
    • These items represent #2, #3 and #4 contributors to revenue over all time.

    • undefined

    • When these three categories are removed from historical data, we can see that the all other categories remain at a relatively stable level of performance with the exception of a bump in October 2017 that was specifically attributed to Technology.

    • undefined

ACTION ITEM: This should prompt a discussion with the team to revisit removal of Footwear, Golf and Fitness from the available product departments. If there is not an option to re-instate these high performing product departments, suggest a new strategy to maximize the Outdoors product department or add new high-value product departments be investigated.

2. Where is DELIVERY underperforming?

  • Delivery has been experiencing performance issues in all four of the options offered to customers for years.
    • Only Standard Class has more than 50% of overall deliveries occurring on-time.
      • Same Day and First Class have had no (0%) on-time deliveries.
      • Second Class has had <25% on-time deliveries.
    • undefined

ACTION ITEM: This should result in shipping being revisited at an Operational level.
